The amount of overlapping content between 8th grade and physical science significantly decreased. The Taskforce determined that the previous practice of compacting 8th grade science and physical science in one year was not possible under these new standards. If you think of a Venn Diagram, the amount of overlap is smaller.

However, the Taskforce felt strongly that Physical Science should be an option for students at the middle school level and that the 8th grade science content provided important foundational knowledge and skills for success in high school science courses. So, the Taskforce decided to provide Physical Science at the middle school level for students who qualify under Ohio Department of Education and DCS’ board policy for subject acceleration placement. The Taskforce also decided to eliminate Science Seminar at grade 7.
